Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis

Crohn’s Disease is a chronic inflammation of the bowel that effects the lining of the digestive tract.  It is a medically diagnosed disease that can last throughout a person’s lifetime.  Crohn’s Disease causes abdominal pain, fever, bowel obstructions, blood in the stool, and diarrhea.  Other symptoms from this disease include loss of appetite, nausea, aching joints, tiredness, and a plethora of other problems.  Although there may be periods when a person is not experiencing symptoms, the other times of suffering can lead to such serious problems as bleeding, infection, kidney stones, eye ailments, and holes in the intestinal walls.  Crohn’s Disease itself is not deadly, but it can lead to more life-threatening conditions such as colon cancer. Once a doctor has medically diagnosed the disease through tests, the medical treatments can vary from the use of steroids to battle the inflammation to antibiotics that treat the inflections to nutritional supplements to counteract the lack of absorption in the intestines.  Other medications may be prescribed to meet other symptoms, as well.

Ulcerative Colitis is very similar to Crohn’s Disease.  The only distinction, for the most part, involves the area of the intestinal wall that is affected.  Crohn’s affects the entire intestinal wall, while Ulcerative Colitis affects only the interior-most layer of the intestinal wall.  For our purposes, we will address the two conditions as one.

Although both conditions last a lifetime, hypnotherapy has been medically proven to assist in placing symptoms in remission and keeping them there.  As we have mentioned in the prior IBS section, the connection between the mind and the gut is well documented.  As a matter of fact, hypnosis-based therapy is now part of most medical specialist trainings for gastroenterologists.

Hypnotherapy that addresses the various components of Crohn’s Disease offers relief in many areas. Crohn’s is not caused by stress, but stress can impact the symptoms associated with it.  Since the symptoms themselves can induce stress, fighting with Crohn’s is a never-ending compounding of those symptoms.  Hypnotherapy offers sufferers the tools necessary not only to relax, but also to reduce the pain.  Since diet impacts any gastrointestinal issue, diet management becomes critical during hypnotherapy.

To adequately deal with this disease, sufferers should consult with a certified medical hypnotherapist.  Before consulting with a hypnotherapist, though, make sure to have a clear medical diagnosis of the disease.  If you happen to be suffering with this incurable condition, get relief today.
